One Foot In The Door

The stage play One Foot in the Door was commissioned by Strathclyde Police ‘A’ Division in 2001 in order to promote awareness of bogus officials and workmen, increase understanding of the dangers involved and give advice on how to deal with various types of situations. The production has been extended for use in other police divisions and by Glasgow Housing Association, as an ongoing project. The play portrays three scenarios in detail showing the wrong and the right ways to deal with suspect or unknown callers and gives general advice in a humorous and non-threatening manner

The problem of bogus callers is widespread and therefore we are seeking funding at national level to produce a screenplay on the subject, which will be mastered to VHS/DVD and reproduced as a resource to be used by different agencies across Scotland

We have formed a working group with representatives of several organisations who are also concerned with the growing incidence of this type of crime. They include; Strathclyde Police, Help the Aged, ACPOS, Strathclyde Fire & Rescue, GHA, Glasgow City Council Home Safety Department and Scottish Pensioners Forum. The scenarios of the screenplay will be written in consultation with this working group. The material will be informative and engaging through the use of humour in order not to further increase the fear of crime

We have found that a dramatic production is one of the most effective ways of conveying a message and we intend to produce a script that will work as a film drama, to engage the audience, and successfully communicate the desired messages. Performing live drama is very effective for those who are able to go out to socialise in groups and see it with their contemporaries, however there are very many older people and people with learning difficulties, who are more isolated in their homes and miss out on the message
